Osage Co. Mother Pleads Guilty in Drowning Death of Her Child

Rachel Sweet is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and involuntary manslaughter.

An sentencing advisory report was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 2.

Osage County Prosecutor Amanda Grellner will be asking for Sweet to serve a total of ten years in prison, 7 on count I and 3 on

count II to run consecutive.

Sweet's lawyers intend to argue for something less than that.

Grellner charged Sweet on March 17 with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of the child.

Officials accuse Sweet of placing her 3-month-old son in a bathtub, then leaving him "with no supervision for an extended period of time."

Sheriff Carl Fowler's probable cause statement indicated that, based on interviews with Sweet and her mother, and a brief visit with Sweet 's daughter, 7, he believed Sweet put the baby in the tub "during the late evening hours of March 7th or early morning hours of March 8th," then fell asleep or unconscious "as a result of the ingestion of prescription medication, consumption of alcohol or combination thereof."

The boy was found face down in the water on the morning of March 8.
