Judge: Courts face budget, political pressures

July 1st, 2011 in News

For the second time in a decade, Judge William Ray Price Jr. woke up today as the Missouri Supreme Court's "former chief justice."

The position rotates every two years, and as of today, the new chief justice is Richard Teitelman, who issued a statement Thursday calling Price "an extraordinary chief justice for Missouri (who provided) extraordinary leadership of the third branch of government during difficult times."

Price will remain one of seven judges on the state's highest court.

In a wide-ranging, 45-minute news conference Thursday with state government and legal-system reporters, Price said he's concerned about the extra budget and political pressures Missouri courts are facing.
