When the state budget's tight, Missouri could save some money by paying senior judges less - if they agreed - under a law state Rep. Stanley Cox has proposed.
Cox, R-Sedalia, presented his plan to the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
"This was brought to me by a senior judge - a hardworking individual who, after his retirement (from the bench) continued to serve the public," Cox testified, "and really cares little about the compensation."
Even though retired, senior judges sometimes are called in to help a court handle a big caseload, or to take a case because the active judges have been removed from it.
