Police: Wife confessed to killing

Sandra Plunkett confessed to killing her husband, former Jefferson City police officer Paul Plunkett, according to Jefferson City police.

Plunkett was shot in the back of his head at their home on New Year's Day. His wife, Sandra, called police, saying she saw a man walking down their street, wearing camouflage and holding a gun. She said she went into the house and found her husband on the floor.

Sandra Plunkett was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday night. A probable cause statement shows she was arrested about 10 p.m. Monday after confessing during an interrogation.

"Sandra Plunkett admitted that she shot her husband, Paul Plunkett, in the head with a rifle," the statement said.

Police have not suggested a motive for the killing.

Plunkett is being held in the Callaway County Jail without bond.

Also, more details have surfaced about a wrongful death lawsuit against Plunkett and St. Mary's Health Center when she worked at the local hospital.
