Feelings of confinement, helplessness are common, expert says

After a week of canceled school, missed work, and postponed games and after-school activities, the much sought after snow day has left many feeling anxious, nervous and maybe just downright grumpy.

"It is certainly a source of stress if we are confined to one place - even if that is our home - and not able to come and go as we please," said Joseph McCormack, a psychologist with St. Mary's Health Psychology.

That is why, McCormack said, the first snow day and second may come as a welcome break. But the following days can be more than just stressful; they can leave families on edge with one another.
