Pedestrian hit by car, hospitalized

A Jefferson City pedestrian was hospitalized in critical condition early Sunday after a car hit him as he was lying in the street.

Jefferson City police report Arnulfo S. Antele, 25, was injured in the accident, which occurred around 4:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Ellis Boulevard, near Oak Hills Golf Course.

Police say Stephen M. Grohs, 18, Holts Summit, was driving a car eastbound when it struck Antele as he lay in the roadway. The injured man was taken to Capital Region Medical Center, then transferred to University Hospital in Columbia.

Neither Grohs nor a passenger in his car were hurt. Police gave no reason why Antele might have been in the street.
