Shriners drop plans for new St. Louis hospital

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Shriners Hospital for Children has decided against building a new seven-story hospital in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/u97ZUH ) reports that instead, a much small outpatient orthopedic surgery center is now planned.

A spokeswoman for Shriners Hospital for Children-St. Louis says the new plan recognizes that the need for inpatient care in St. Louis is slight.

Shriners hopes to open the new outpatient center in 2015. The existing hospital will remain open until then.
