Samaritan Center serves as Santa for some

Jennifer McKae, right, asks her mother, Wilma Jones, left, if she thinks the coat would fit one of McKae's children Tuesday at the Samaritan Center. Volunteer Bev Buschmann helps McKae shop, center. This is the 11th year for the Santa's Workshop program, which serves the center's established client families with children younger than 13 years old.

Christmas will be a little brighter for some families served by the Samaritan Center in Jefferson City.

For the past 11 years, Santa's Workshop has helped brighten the Christmas for children across the area, by giving two new toys valued at $10, books, hat, gloves or scarf and a game for the family to share.

The program is open for clients of the center who live outside of Cole County. Cole County families are eligible for other Christmas programs.

Melinda Metz has been coming to the Samaritan Center for a variety of needs since the economy began to cause employment issues at home.
