Schuyler County, Mo., collector resigns amid audit

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (AP) - The Schuyler County collector has resigned after an audit found that more than $50,000 was misappropriated.

Kirksville television station KTVO reports (http://bit.ly/nDgqWN ) that Collector Kathy Roberts resigned Monday.

Prosecutor Scott Summers told the station that Roberts allegedly misappropriated more than $50,000, but no charges have been filed. The money issues were discovered during an audit by the state auditor's office.

A news release from Summers says that "appropriate action will be taken to recover as much of the loss as possible."

Roberts was first elected to office in 1986.

No one answered the phone Tuesday morning at a number listed for Roberts.
