Eight area men will compete next week to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club. The 7th annual Men of the Club will be held Aug. 18, featuring local men showing off their talents to win the title of 2011 Mr. Capital City.

Kathy Crow, chair and past board member, said each man will perform three skits: talent, swimsuit and evening wear, and each skit has to advertise the contestant's sponsor. Crow said a panel of four judges will evaluate each contestant based on creativity, how well they advertise their sponsor and how much each contestant has raised. At the end of the night, whoever raised the most money for the Boys & Girls Club will also receive an award.

Crow said the event is one of the largest fundraisers in the area, with nearly 900 people attending. Each year, the event raises around $30,000 for the club's operating costs.

The event will be held at Capitol Plaza Hotel. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Aug. 18. Admission is $25 and tickets can be purchased by calling the Boys & Girls Club at (573) 634-2582 or Kathy Crow at (573) 634-1248.

Donations also can be made at www.bgjeffersoncity.org.
