Mo. governor bags 24-pound turkey on hunting trip

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon got himself a turkey on opening day of the spring hunting season in Missouri.

The governor's office says Nixon killed a gobbler weighing 24 pounds while hunting Monday morning in the woods in Pulaski County. Nixon's office says the bird had a 10-inch beard.

Nixon spokesman Scott Holste says the governor plans to mount the turkey's fan and beard and serve the edible parts of the bird at the Governor's Mansion.
