ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis Blues defenseman Roman Polak will have surgery on a severed tendon in his right wrist and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Earlier in the week, the Blues believed Polak would only miss a game or two. The injury will be evaluated in 10 days to two weeks, but the team said Wednesday it did not believe the defenseman would miss the rest of the season.
"Competitively, it's a hurdle we have to overcome," general manager Doug Armstrong said. "He has a large impact on the game as a penalty-killer and as a shutdown defenseman."
Before opting for surgery, set for Thursday, the team's medical staff had thought Polak could play despite the injury.
Polak was injured during the second period of a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.
Defenseman Nathan Oystrick was recalled from Peoria of the AHL.
