Wounded St. Louis police officer recovering

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A St. Louis police officer who was shot in the neck, back and elbow during a traffic stop last week continues to improve at a hospital.

Twenty-five-year-old patrolman Lucas Roethlisberger has been upgraded from serious to fair condition at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

The suspect, 20-year-old Kim Dwayne Cobb Jr. of St. Louis, remained in critical condition Monday at the hospital, where's he's also being treated for a gunshot wound to the back.

Cobb is charged with two counts apiece of first-degree assault on law enforcement and armed criminal action. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney.

Roethlisberger and Patrolman Luke Kallal were shot last Wednesday night after stopping a vehicle with its lights off. Kallal was treated for a gunshot wound to a thigh and was released.
