Music teacher from KC sentenced for child porn

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A professional jazz pianist and former music teacher has been sentenced to seven years and six months in federal prison for possessing child pornography and receiving it over the Internet.

The U.S. attorney's office said in a news release that 57-year-old William Harold Laursen of Kansas City also was ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution. But if he pays the restitution in 30 days, he will only have to pay $3,000.

The money will go to a girl who was 10 or 11 when a video recording was made of her being sexually abused by her father. Prosecutors said Laursen admitted downloading a nearly two-hour video depicting the abuse and watched that recording and others of the same victim over a period of months.

Laursen taught music at private schools in Kansas City and Johnson County, Kan.
