The World's Largest Operating Steam Locomotive is coming to Jefferson City.
Locomotive No. 3985 is on its way from Cheyenne, Wyo., to Gorham, Ill., to celebrate railroad heritage on the "Missouri River Eagle - Sedalia, Missouri, Sesquicentennial Tour."
The locomotive left Cheyenne on Thursday, and will have stopped in North Platte, Neb., Marysville, Kan., and Kansas City before reaching Jefferson City on Monday.
The public may visit the steam engine 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Pacific tracks at the north end of Missouri Boulevard.
A Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) transmitter was installed on one of the railcars that travels with No. 3985. The GPS system has been integrated with a map at www.up.com. Enter "Steam" in the search box on the homepage for a shortcut to the map.
