BYRNES MILL, Mo. (AP) -- A St. Louis-area man is accused of causing the death of a teenage acquaintance by shooting him in the face with an arrow.

Prosecutors in Jefferson County south of St. Louis charged 20-year-old Jered Winters of House Springs on Friday with involuntary manslaughter. The charge is punishable by up to seven years in prison and $5,000 in fines.

Authorities say 15-year-old Ryan Sargeant died at a St. Louis County hospital after the shooting Thursday in woods in Byrnes Mill.

Michael Ravetta of the county's prosecutor's office says it is believed the two were hunting when the shooting happened. Missouri's archery hunting season for deer and turkey opened on Sept. 15.

Winters has no listed home telephone number. Court records do not show whether he has retained an attorney.
