Missouri takes online learning away from Extension

November 11th, 2010 in News

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - The University of Missouri is moving its online and distance-learning programs away from the university's Extension programs.

The programs will be placed under campus administration while a study is done to find ways to deliver the programs more efficiently.

Tom Henderson, former MU Extension director, says he will study how to realign the Center for Distance and Independent Study, MU Direct and Mizzou Online.

The Columbia Tribune reports that the change comes as the university system is trying to improve e-learning on all four of its campuses.

On the Columbia campus, several Extension employees will now become campus employees, amounting to about a $15 million change to MU Extension's budget.
