CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Southeast Missouri's Cape Girardeau has a new homeless shelter, courtesy of a couple who administer the neighboring church that funds it.
Carey and Dorothy Wilson opened the New Beginning House of Refuge next to the Apostolic Pentecostal New Beginnings Church of Deliverance. Dorothy Wilson is the church's pastor, and her husband is a bishop.
The Southeast Missourian reports that eight people already are pushing the capacity of the shelter, which is the area's fourth while another one is in the works.
Church donations cover the monthly payment on the $37,000 house, as well as food and utilities.
The two-story, five-bedroom shelter has a lengthy list of needs, including baseboard heaters, breaker boxes, beds and more volunteers to help with the work.
