Columbia voters reject proposal to ban Tasers

November 4th, 2010 in News

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Columbia voters soundly rejected a proposal to ban the use of Tasers and similar weapons.

The proposed ban failed Tuesday by a 77 percent to 23 percent margin. The vote means police and private citizens will be able to use the weapons for self-defense.

Supporters worked to get the ban on the ballot since summer 2008, when a 23-year-old Moberly man died after he was shocked by police with a stun gun for allegedly resisting arrest.
