Aldermen vote "no confidence' in Willard mayor

December 30th, 2010 in News

WILLARD, Mo. (AP) - The mayor of a southwest Missouri town severely criticized by the state auditor for its financial practices received a vote of "no confidence" from four of six aldermen.

Willard Mayor Jamie Schoolcraft said he intends to finish out his term, which runs until next April, despite Tuesday night's vote. He says he doesn't plan to run for re-election.

Two weeks ago, State Auditor Susan Montee strongly criticized the many of the city's financial practices. The most serious allegation is that the city built a pool with no way to pay for it.

Schoolcraft says he thinks it's important for city officials to focus on implementing suggestions in the audit, which he says he's already doing.

Schoolcraft did not attend the meeting because his wife gave birth earlier Tuesday.
