The school's 70 students raised more than $2,000 to buy 28 farm animals for impoverished families through World Vision. The donation will also include soccer balls and Bibles.

A "laptop savings" jar was left next to the "Moo-lah Campaign" jar at Lighthouse Preparatory Academy.

An entrepreneurial student who makes and sells jewelry and handbags donated her sales for a week.

Many students chose to substitute rice for their regular meals and give away the difference, and several gave up their morning specialty coffee to contribute.

Checks and sizable anonymous donations came in, too.
