A silent night it is not.

But it is festive.

For 21 years, Living Windows has been putting people in the holiday spirit, and Friday night's event was no different.

Despite the crowds and the chilly wind rolling in off the river, people of all ages came out in droves to kick off the Christmas festivities along High and Madison streets.

"Two years ago, it was probably 12 degrees, so this feels like a heat wave," Paula Burkemper said.

She and her husband, Dave, brought their son Grant, 4, and daughter Bronwyn, 20 months, to enjoy a hayride and to see Burn Circus.

Not necessarily holidaythemed, Burn Circus joined Living Windows for the first time this year, and they were a hit.

A crowd gathered quickly and remained throughout the night.

Brandon Smith, one of the performers, defined Burn Circus as an "informal organization of formally trained fire performers."

Across the street, a local band stood in the window of Fred Vogel Insurance singing Christmas carols.
