Glass recycling service to begin Monday

December 3rd, 2010 in News

Beginning Monday, Jefferson City residents will be able to drop off glass for recycling at two locations in the city with purple bins:

-1228 E. McCarty St. (Savea-Lot parking lot).

-722 Dix Road.

The Jefferson City Community Development Department has partnered with Ripple Glass of Kansas City to offer the free glass recycling service for Jefferson City residents.

Once the purple bins at both locations are full, the glass will be transported to a bunker on East Miller Street. Ripple Glass will transport the glass from the bunker to their recycling facility in Kansas City.

-What type of glass can be dropped off? All food and beverage containers of any color, including mason jars, can be dropped off at the two locations.

-What type of glass should not be dropped off? Windows, mirrors, cookware and dishes.

Glass does not have to be separated by color, and labels do not have to be removed.

Sponsors of the glass recycling project are: Xtreme Body and Paint, Fechtel Beverages, Allied Waste Services, Beth McGeorge Realty, Midwest Alliance for Renewable Energy, UMB, Hy-Vee, Missouri State Recycling Program and MRS (federal recycling).
