ST. LOUIS (AP) - A former football player from a private Christian school in suburban St. Louis has been sentenced to time served for pulling sleeping teammates from their beds four years ago and sexually assaulting them.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Maverick Holmsley initially was sentenced to five years in prison for first-degree sodomy.
But the Missouri Supreme Court overturned the 2016 conviction in September because a judge and prosecutor made mistakes in the case. Holmsley then pleaded guilty last month to four counts of second-degree assault.
Holmsley, who is now 22, was among five players from Principia School accused of assaulting teammates with objects that included pencils during a 2014 sports camp. The other four reached plea deals for short stints behind bars and avoided joining Missouri's sex offender registry.
