Teen charged in Independence store carjacking, shooting

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - A Kansas City teenager has been charged with shooting a woman in the chest and wounding her while attempting to steal her car from outside a Burlington Coat Factory store in Independence.

Seventeen-year-old Drevon Davis was charged Thursday with four felonies, including first-degree assault. Bond is set at $300,000. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.

Court records say Davis told police that he and a juvenile approached a woman Wednesday and demanded her Audi. He said he fired a shot when she said "No" because he feared she was reaching for a gun. The woman is hospitalized. But Davis said he believed he missed her because she was able to drive off.

The records say Davis and two others stole another vehicle about 20 minutes later.
