Motorcyclist killed in crash after fleeing police at 120 mph

HERCULANEUM (AP) - A motorcyclist who sped away after an officer tried to pull him over has died after crashing on Interstate 55 south of St. Louis.

The crash happened Sunday evening. The Missouri Highway Patrol said the victim was 30-year-old Harold M. Frick, of Arnold.

Police say around 6 p.m., a Jefferson County deputy tried to stop the motorcyclist near Pevely. Police said the driver refused to pull over and reached a speed of up to 120 mph has he sped away. The deputy did not give chase. A short time later, another deputy encountered the motorcycle.

Authorities said the second officer also did not chase the man when it became evident he wasn't stopping. 

Frick died when his motorcycle crashed into a cable barrier.
