Nine people die in Thanksgiving holiday crashes

Missouri's roadways shad fewer fatalities, but substantially more accidents during this year's Thanksgiving holiday counting period compared to 2020's numbers.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported nine people died in traffic crashes during this year's holiday counting period, which began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

There were no boating crashes or drownings.

During the Thanksgiving holiday counting period, troopers reported working 457 crashes with 114 injuries. There were 125 DWI arrests and 72 people arrested for allegedly being in possession of illegal drugs.

None of the fatality crashes occurred in Central Missouri nor were any of the victims from Central Missouri.

During the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday counting period, troopers investigated 307 traffic crashes, which included 10 fatalities and 86 injuries. Statewide, 12 people died and 379 people were injured in 1,166 traffic crashes during last year's Thanksgiving holiday. Troopers also arrested 99 people for DWI.
