A Jefferson City woman has been placed on five years of supervised probation in connection with a March burglary.

Rachel Farmer, 23, pleaded guilty during a Wednesday hearing before Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce to possession of a controlled substance. As part of her probation, Farmer must successfully complete the county's alternative court program.

Prosecutors dropped first-degree burglary and felony stealing charges against Farmer in open court.

Farmer entered a home where she used to live in the 10100 block of West Brazito Road on or about March 20 with the purpose to steal, according to court documents.

The victim at the home had told Farmer to leave, but she entered anyway, and the victim saw Farmer take a ring worth at least $150 from a shelf in the living room.

A deputy said in a probable cause statement filed by the Cole County Sheriff's Office that Farmer had admitted to having the ring when she was arrested.

Drug charges filed against Farmer in February listed her then-home address as the location where she stole the ring.
