Unclaimed ring auctioned for $19,000

Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick announced Thursday the state’s unclaimed property auction in Springfield this week earned more than $175,000 for account owners.

The state auctions off items from safe deposit boxes that are turned over to the state treasurer’s office by financial institutions after five years of inactivity or no contact from the owner.

The rightful owners or their heirs of auctioned items can claim all the proceeds from auction by going to ShowMeMoney.com.

The single largest bid at auction this year was $19,000 for a silver ring with clear stones.

The auction earned $175,774.05 for account owners, according to a news release from Fitzpatrick’s office.

The average claim size of unclaimed property is $300, according to the news release.
