California police chief resigns

California Police Chief Shane Templeton has submitted his resignation, effective Oct. 31.

California’s Board of Aldermen approved Templeton’s resignation last week, which will come after serving as CPD chief for about nine months.

Templeton began his service as police chief in an interim role Jan. 31 after the resignation of former CPD Chief John Hoover.

Capt. Daniel Hurt will serve as the interim police chief following Templeton’s last day later this month, City Clerk Aimee Hill said.

Hurt will be California’s third acting police chief in just the past two years — Templeton and Hoover vacated their positions after less than a year on the job in any capacity, with Hoover submitting his resignation only six months after his hire.
