Area couple nominated for horse trainer of the year award

A Eugene couple has been nominated for National Horse Trainer of the Year.

Heather and Sterling Slemp of Slemp Performance Horses are among 16 horse trainers vying for the award.

A Wisconsin company, Greatmats, which sells horses stall, stable and trailer flooring, is sponsoring the contest.

The fifth annual award honors trainers who have made a positive impact in the lives of their clients and communities.

These trainers have been nominated by members of their respective communities, Greatmats officials said in a news release.

The Slemps specialize in the reining and working cow horse industries, according to their Facebook page. They offer services in training and showing of horses as well as lessons, sales and clinics.

An online vote is taking place at greatmats.com/2019-greatmats-national-horse-trainer-of-the-year.php through Nov. 28. The two trainers with the most votes will be named finalists.

Greatmats will choose the winner between the finalists, based on their demonstration of service/community impact, integrity and quality of instruction. The winner will be announced Dec. 13.
