Benefit dinner planned Sunday for fire victim

TEBBETTS, Mo. - A dinner to benefit Laura Cook Troutman will be Sunday at the Tebbetts Community Center.

Troutman's Wainwright house burned down Jan. 18. She is a lifelong resident of the area, and her husband, Jimmy Welschmeyer, died several years ago, leaving her and her son alone.

At the time of the fire, Troutman was upstairs in her house and her son was in the basement. Fire officials determined the fire had started behind the stove, and everything was destroyed.

The Tebbetts Odd Fellows Lodge is sponsoring the cost of the meal, so all proceeds will go to Troutman.

There also will be a dessert bake-off from 5-7 p.m. during the event.

Dinner is smothered Salisbury steak, smashed potatoes, peas and corn, slaw, drinks and homemade desserts. Donation is suggested at $10 for an adult and $2.50 for a child, all you can eat. Gluten-free food is available upon request.

To participate in the bake-off, drop off your dessert 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday. Judging starts at 4:40 p.m.
