No injuries were reported after a house fire Wednesday morning in Jefferson City.

According to fire department reports, crews were called at 6:32 a.m. to go to a structure fire in the 800 block of Washington Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a fire in a corner bedroom and fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze in under 10 minutes.

Five adults and one child were displaced.

An electrical problem in the residence was believed to have started the fire which caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.

Fire officials said they encourage residents to keep interior doors closed, especially those to bedrooms and utility rooms. Closed doors will slow the spread of fire and smoke to other parts of a home allowing residents more time to escape.
