Jefferson City man charged with damaging apartments

A Jefferson City man has been charged with damaging and stealing from an apartment complex.

Jimmie Hicks, 34, is charged with stealing and first-degree property damage.

Hicks was found on the Deville Southwest property in the early morning hours of Jan. 3, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Officers said Hicks took copper tubing and black insulation from 19 air-conditioning units and let the refrigerant out of 42 units. While doing so, Hicks allegedly dropped his medication bottle between two of the air-conditioning units that he had removed tubing from, and authorities recovered it.

When questioned, Hicks admitted to being on the Deville property and dropping his medication, but changed the location where he said he dropped his medication a couple of times. Hicks had several superficial cuts and scratches on his wrists and hands as well as a dark black substance under his fingernails. He said several times, "I don't steal," according to the probable cause statement.
