Trivia night to support Marriage Encounter

A blacklight bash trivia event will benefit couples participating in Jefferson City Marriage Encounter.

The twist on trivia will take place Saturday at the St. Martins Knights of Columbus 7194.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and games will begin at 7 p.m. Food will be catered by Colton's Steak House and Grill for $10 a plate. The meal includes a chicken breast or 6-ounce sirloin steak, baked potato, vegetable and rolls. Cheesecake will be available for an additional $2.

Half of all food sales will benefit the organization. More than $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded that night. The cost for a table of eight is $160. To sign up, contact Jill Cremer at [email protected].

Jefferson City Marriage Encounter has held biannual couples' retreats since 1975. The organization is run by volunteers who believe marriage enrichment is a positive experience for all couples.

"It really is an effort to help people who have good marriages make them even better," organizer Candy Smith said. "No matter how good your marriage is, everybody hits dry spots."

Sponsored by Bartlett & West and Bentlage Homes, the organization's fundraisers help the group to continue operating locally and to award scholarships to couples who need help affording the retreat.

"We truly believe that people don't need to go on a Marriage Encounter, they deserve to go on a Marriage Encounter," organizer Britt Smith said.

Marriage Encounter weekends include space to talk openly with other couples about communication, children, money and other topics. The next Jefferson City Marriage Encounter is scheduled April 27-28.
