Jefferson City resident Christopher J. Velazquez-Barajas, 18, was moderately injured in a one-vehicle wreck Sunday morning in Moniteau County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that at about 9:40 a.m. he was eastbound on U.S. 50, west of Route K, when his vehicle began to skid, then went off the right side of the road. It struck a highway sign, then struck an embankment, coming to rest on its driver's-side facing north.

Velazquez-Barajas was taken to St. Mary's Hospital. It was unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
