Westview Heights stormwater project progressing

The first phase of a multi-phase and multi-year project to upgrade the stormwater systems in the Westview Heights area has been completed, Cole County Public Works officials announced Thursday.

South Brooks Drive between Shady Lane and Westview Drive reopened to traffic Friday.

The next phase of the project has begun, as South Brooks Drive was closed to all traffic between Northway and Westview drives on Friday morning. The closure will last for approximately one month as a box culvert under South Brooks will be put in. There will also be a series of stormwater pipes and inlets installed.

Local residents will have to find an alternate route to get through the subdivision.

The Cole County Commission approved the project in May. Contractor B&D Patterson, of Linn, was the low bidder at $540,149 and was awarded the project.

The bid came in under the engineer's estimated budget of $718,332. Public works officials said they will be able to do work on other projects with the money saved.

The project will reconstruct three pipe crossings on South Brooks Drive and Collier Lane with either a new pipe or box culvert, plus replace or add several drop inlets and pipe.

Work is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 30.
