A Jefferson City man has been charged with third-degree domestic assault and first-degree harassment for an incident that occurred Tuesday morning.

George Biggs, 48, is accused of committing the crimes in the 1200 block of East Dunklin Street.

Officers were called after a woman had told Biggs twice to leave her home, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The woman had returned home after taking her children to school to find Biggs was still in her residence, and the two began to argue.

The woman claimed Biggs had slapped her several times and dragged her around by her arms in the residence as well as spit in her face. She also claimed Biggs had threatened to burn down the residence.

Biggs denied an assault had occurred and claimed he had been living with the woman in the same residence until Tuesday's incident.

Court records show Biggs has prior convictions for arson and assault.
