Angerer, Smith elected to Eugene school board

EUGENE - Incumbent Charles "Chuck" Angerer and Deanna "Dee" Smith were declared the winners of the Cole R-5 (Eugene) school board race in Tuesday's municipal election.

Five candidates ran for two three-year spots on the board, also including incumbent Spencer K. Hoskins, Kevin Stokes and Kris Graham.

A total of 418 ballots were cast in Cole County and 171 in Miller County.

Angerer said he is glad to be re-elected and maintain the faith of the community. He received 196 votes (33.33 percent).

"I've been there for three years," Angerer said. "I kind of know the process, and I want to make sure I continue and finish some of the things that we've started."

Smith received 188 votes (31.97 percent).

"I'm very excited to be on the board," Smith said.

One of her top priorities is to create subcommittees within the board to focus on issues like communication, curriculum or grants.

Incumbent Hoskins said he enjoyed the three-year term he served on the board. He received 119 votes (20.24 percent).

"I think that Chuck and Dee will both do a fantastic job," Hoskins said.

As of now, he plans to continue to support the school through volunteer efforts and could possible run again next year.

Candidate Kevin Stokes said he thinks each candidate was running to help the school. He received 37 votes (6.29 percent) and plans to continue to attend board meetings. He said will most likely run again.

Kris Graham, who received 48 votes (8.16 percent), said the votes showed community support for the youth and Eugene school district.

"I was very thankful and impressed with all the voters that actually turned out for this election," Graham said. "I plan to continue to support and be involved as much as I can with the school district."

He will possibly run next year, he added.
