Jefferson City Public Schools officials report three of its facilities were briefly placed on lockdown status while a report of shots being fired was investigated, but nothing was found.

Jefferson City High School, Nichols Career Center and Thorpe Gordon Elementary School were on lockdown for "less than 10 minutes this morning," the school district reported in a message posted to Twitter and the district's website shortly after 9 a.m.

The affected schools are located in an area bounded by Union, Lafayette, Franklin and Jackson streets.

The Jefferson City Police Department "received a report of shots fired in a nearby area," the district's tweet reported. "JCPD investigated the report and promptly gave school officials the all-clear."

A police department spokesman told the News Tribune that only one caller reported hearing possible shots. Officers cleared the scene after investigating and finding no evidence of trouble.
