HALO Jefferson City has new director

HALO (Helping Art Liberate Orphans) of Jefferson City has a new director.

Many folks around the Jefferson City area will recognize Suzanne Wilson as the former principal at Pioneer Trail and Thorpe Gordon elementary schools.

Having been the art teacher at several area schools, including Belair Elementary School, gives her a leg up in her new job.

HALO uses therapeutic art to get homeless children to open up about their lives. Therapeutic art provides children a safe place to purge painful memories and share stories so they can start healing without having to speak, according to the organization's website.

The organization recently received licensing that allows it to work with foster children, Wilson said.

She joined the team last week.

"My hope is that I can help - especially with families here in Jefferson City," she said.
