Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway's examination of the Callaway County Collector's Office is still underway, a spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
County residents can expect to see the final audit results this fall.
The audit began March 27 after county officials requested an expedited review following discovery of suspicious activity in a Callaway County checking account managed by the collector's office. Former Callaway County Collector Pam Oestreich resigned May 15. Officials have yet to disclose the exact nature of the suspicious activity.
Commissioner Gary Jungermann said in late March he'd been told the in-depth audit would begin in April and last four to six weeks.
"The audit is ongoing," said Steph Deidrick, spokesperson for the state auditor's office. "Fieldwork is expected to be completed within the next month."
Deidrick said the amount of time an audit takes varies based on a number of factors, such as the scope of the audit and number and severity of the findings.
"This time frame is not atypical for an audit investigating suspicious or improper activity," she said.
Deidrick added while the audit results will be released publicly, she can't provide any preliminary information while the audit is underway.
Following the appointment of Tim Wilkerson as Callaway County collector in early April, the collector's office has continued to operate while the audit takes place.
