Probation granted in DWI case

A Jefferson City man has been placed on five years of supervised probation for pleading guilty to charges following a single-vehicle accident in January where authorities said alcohol was involved.

Gary Gieck Jr., 38, pleaded guilty to charges of felony aggravated DWI and misdemeanor driving while revoked during a court hearing before Cole County Judge Dan Green.

The crash happened in the 800 block of Belair Drive, according to Jefferson City Police Department reports.

Gieck was traveling south on Belair Drive when he lost control of his vehicle and began sliding sideways. He ran off the left side of the street and struck a tree on the passenger side of his vehicle.

Gieck and his passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle, and neither was wearing a seat belt.
