Jefferson City fire and police departments are investigating a suspicious house fire that occurred early Thursday morning.

The fire in the 100 block of Hess Way was called in just after midnight, according to JCFD reports.

First arriving companies reported a large fire from the rear of the structure. It was determined that the home was vacant and was boarded up from previous fire damage.

Once the fire was under control and the building deemed structurally sound, crews entered it to search and to extinguish the remaining areas of smoldering fire.

One firefighter was treated by ambulance personnel for what is believed to have been a heat-related issue.
