Abatement contract awarded for Russellville property

Cole County commissioners agreed Tuesday to award a contract to clean up a property in Russellville.

MegAllie Construction will do the work for $18,095.

The commission voted last month to move forward with abating the property in the 13000 block of Jefferson Road, for which abatement originally was approved in December, but commissioners later gave the property owner an extension in April.

County Code Enforcement Officer Mike Sapp said J.B. "Darrell" Jackson has made little if any progress since the extension was granted to clean up large amounts of cardboard scattered about the property. Sapp said he has tried to contact the property owner but has been unsuccessful.

The abatement bill will be submitted to the Cole County Health Department, then a bill with an additional $100 administration fee will be sent to the property owner. If that bill is not paid within 30 days of the work being done, a $50 late fee will be charged. If the bill is not paid after 35 days, a lien against the property will be added to the tax bill.
