Callaway County candidates move forward to general election

The final results from Callaway County's 24 precincts were reported 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, showing clear leaders in three contested primary races.

Presiding County Commissioner Gary Jungermann was the sole Republican in the primary. He will run against Democrat Susie Ferguson in the Nov. 6 general election.

Ferguson (63.62 percent with 1,710 votes) defeated Tim Kendall, who had 36.38 percent of the vote (978 votes in all). Jungermann received 5,663 votes.

Two Republicans vied for Callway County clerk. Ronda Lea Miller won with 57.31 percent (3,423 votes) of the vote, while Kathie Ratliff had 42.69 percent (2,550 votes).

"I'm tickled to death," Miller said of the win. "I'm anxious to get going. I'm hoping to go sit with other county clerks to learn the ropes."

The only other contested race was between two Republicans for county collector of revenue. At the close of voting, Sarah Gladman had 57.44 percent (3,440 votes) compared to Eva Jones' 42.56 percent (2,549 votes).

With no competition in the Republican or Democratic primary, Republicans Megan Morse won the race for clerk of the circuit court, Christine Kleindienst for recorder of deeds, Christopher D. Wilson for prosecuting attorney, and Karen Rentschler for county auditor.

In this primary, 7,061 registered Callaway County voters cast ballots. There are about 29,000 registered voters in Callaway. Election officials said everything went smoothly.
