P&Z approves new VA clinic

The Jefferson City Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved plans for a new veterans administration clinic Thursday night.

Irvine Capital Management LLC submitted a Preliminary Planned Unit Development plan to build a 10,116-square-foot medical office building at 3430 W. Edgewood Drive, at the northwest corner of West Edgewood and Wildwood drives. The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce own the 3.35-acre property.

They plan to use the proposed building as a new clinic for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

"The property is located along an arterial street which makes it an ideal location for the proposed use," city staff said, adding there are similar uses along Edgewood Drive.

City staff recommended a bus stop and shelter be installed near the proposed building to accommodate future patrons since the current veteran clinic at 2707 W. Edgewood Drive is the second most frequently used bus stop on the Capital Mall JeffTran route.

Irvine Capital Management may expand on the building in the future, as the preliminary plan shows a future addition of 6,603 square feet west of the proposed building.

The Jefferson City Council will consider the PUD plan May 21.
