Multiple-vehicle crash near Freeburg kills 1

One person was killed and two others were hurt in a five-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Osage County.

Missouri Highway Patrol reports show the crash occurred on U.S. 63 at Route JJ around 1:30 p.m.

Tina Fountain, 47, of Ballwin, Rebecca Weyrauch, 32, of Ava, and David Harper, 55, of Dixon, were all stopped in separate vehicles behind Taylor Allen, 26, of Freeburg, who was making a left turn. That's when Nathan Duff, 30, of Tunas, struck Fountain's vehicle in the rear, setting off a chain reaction with all the vehicles rear-ending one another.

Weyrauch and Harper went off the right side of the road and down an embankment.

Harper, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Fountain was treated for moderate injuries;and a passenger with Allen, Tori Allen, 26, of Freeburg, was treated for minor injuries.

All others involved in the accident had no reported injuries, and all were wearing seat belts.
