Fair bests Alderman Cole in Eldon board election

LaDuke and Kidwell retain elected positions

The Eldon Board of Aldermen will look a little different after Tuesday's election.

After about eight years on the board, incumbent Sharon Cole has been defeated by challenger Rodney Fair. Incumbent Larry LaDuke will remain on the board after topping challenger Jeanelle Carroll.

Eldon City Marshal Brian Kidwell also will retain his position after defeating challenger Michael Rayhart, a captain at the Miller County Sheriff's Office, by 35 percent of the vote.

Fair won with 149 of a 231-vote total, beating out a long-time member of the board whom other members often looked to for local expertise. He was not available to offer comment after the election results were posted Tuesday night.

LaDuke, who received 92 of 145 total votes, said Cole would be missed on the board, but he looks forward to moving ahead with the aldermen to decide how to increase needed city funding.

"I think Eldon really is going in a positive direction," LaDuke said. "We are going to have one new alderman on there and the mayor is going to be there for two more years, so there is some stability in the government. But Sharon has been an alderman for almost 10 years now, and I use her as my historian if I need to find a report on something. She has saved everything over the years and is able to put her finger on things, so we will miss her on the board."

Kidwell is a former Eldon detective who was happy the people of Eldon trusted him to continue serving as city marshal. He looks forward to continuing the work of helping residents lead safe and peaceful lives.

"I'm extremely grateful to the citizens of Eldon in their confidence in me, and I'll do everything in my power not to let them down," Kidwell said.

Other Miller County communities' election results include:

In Iberia, Tony Gladden received 100 percent of the vote for Ward 1 alderman with 15 votes. Nathan Duncan received 100 percent of the vote for Iberia Ward 2 alderman with six votes.

Voters in the Village of Olean elected Rebecca Kehr to the board with two votes, while Eunice Greaser and Larry Greaser received one vote and two write-in votes were also cast. Olean voters also denied a proposal to forgo annual elections if the number of candidates filed is equal to the number of available positions with 67 percent of the vote.

Tuscumbia filled its three Board of Aldermen positions, with Roger Edwards receiving four votes, Gerald Rush three and three write-in votes.
