Chamois voters elected Elise Brochu as mayor Tuesday, casting 36 votes for Brochu over runner-up Jeffrey Brown at 26, according to unofficial results.
Brochu was appointed an alderman after a seat opened due to resignation before deciding to run for mayor. She lived in Chamois when she was born and returned to the area three years ago.
Brochu works as a senior estimator and project manager and said she wants to make Chamois' leadership more productive, working on grants and starting projects.
Brochu said she is excited to take over as mayor, already being heavily involved with the city's efforts to improve. She said among the goals for Chamois is to bring better access to health care and a better internet availability.
"There are just so many things we need," Brochu said Tuesday night after learning she had been elected.
Brochu said she is pleased with the Board of Aldermen who has been elected as well, noting the seats are filled with people she has worked with already.
"We've been working really well together," she said.
Debbie Huff, 35 votes, and Matt Shockley, 54 votes, were elected to two-year aldermen positions over runner-up Marie Wigglesworth, 16 votes.
Dema Schnauss was elected to a one-year alderman position with 43 votes over runner-up Calvin Cox at 15 votes.
